During the past few months, wildfires, flooding, and hurricanes have caused significant damage and tragic loss of lives across the U.S. Sparked by prolonged droughts and weeks of unprecedented heatwaves, wildfires are raging across states in the West. Torrential rain led to devastating flooding in states in the central U.S., including Tennessee. Hurricane Ida, which made landfall in Louisiana, brought powerful winds and rain that spurred dangerous flooding and widespread power outages along its path which included, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York, among other states in the East. Given the scope of damage, the Red Cross expects to be on the ground helping people for weeks or even months to come.
